Online poker continues to thrive during economic downturn
While the recent economic downturn has caused many companies to lay off workers or slow down their revenue growth, online poker has not succumbed to this trend. Many online poker rooms have not only weathered the economic storm, but many of them are doing record business.

The poker boom began in the US, where poker is a popular hobby and loved by Americans. And when laws were passed in the US that forced many online poker rooms to leave the US, the poker rooms simply shifted their tactics to Europe, which was just beginning to catch the poker bug. And they moved east through Eastern Europe and Russia. In America, they moved south and sparked a mini-poker boom in Central and South America. And while poker is already popular in places like Macau, Australia and the Philippines, many are looking to Asia as the next market that will really explode with development to keep the momentum going.
So the net effect is that during a boom in one market, an online poker site is fueling a fire in a new market that supports healthy growth.
Obviously, as a company grows, it usually needs more and more staff to keep up with the growth of the business. And many of the jobs created in the online poker industry are the result of this impact. But jobs are created because each new country and/or region has its own specific needs.
